Fish Bone Diagram also known as
-Ishikawa diagram
-Cause & effect Diagram.
Kaoru Ishikawa had invented the strategy known as Ishikawa diagram/ cause & effect Diagram, it looks like bone of fish, hence it's also known as fish bone diagram.
The diagram shows the possible causes of a problem. It helps team to find out potential causes to identify root causes. It's a pictorial representation of why why analysis.
Figure-1.
See above,
Keeping the problem right ( mouth of a fish.)
in any problems, 6M's are bones of that problem.
1. Man 2. Machine
3. Method 4. Material
5. Measurement 6. Mother Nature
Keep these as bones of the fish. As seen in above figure.
Now ask : Why this Problem is ?
You may get potential causes which may related to 6M's as above. Place the causes in relevant field Cause-1 as seen in below figure.
Figure-2.
Asking to cause-1, you may get cause-2.
Likewise, Fishbone diagram help to reaching to final root causes.
