Quality

Quality means Fitness for purpose
The Product / service that having ability to perform satisfactorily and is suitable for the purpose, made /prepared/intended for.

Quality is abscence of any defects of any kind which may result into customer dissatisfaction.


Example :
    • Requirement : The product which are not meeting the customer requirements.
    • Aesthaetical :Thogh the product is meeting the customer basic requirement in performance point of view but aesthetically the product not looking good in customer point of view
    • Delay : The product is meeting requirement, Aesthetically also good but not meeting the delivery schedule time.
Quality Begins with Customer Requirements
  • Quality must be designed in.
  • It cannot be inspected in!

Quality depends on:
  1. Parts selection and procurement
  2. Material
  3. Manufacturing/production processes
  4. Logistic processes


When we going to buy a Television :

There are some customer specific requirement:

Television size : 14 inches / 32 inches
type                  : LED / LCD
Sound               : with woofer

Above  requirements are customer specific requirements.

Some requirements are delighter requirements which are not stated but given by the Manufacturers.

i.e. Manufacturer giving Remote with TV. this requirement was given as a delighter needs earlier. but nowdays the requirement becomes implied needs. not stated but must.

Why Quality :
Any Industry or Organization are working for Business.
to Achieve the Optimum business : the Unit will like to improve :
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Reduction in Process/ Operation cost
  • Increase the Market value / brand value
  • Effective Management of the Risk.
To achieve the above objective, The Organization need to meet the requirement of the Customer & improve Satisfaction level & through this, improve the business.
to do this, Have to have produce the Qualititive Product.

If the Quality Improves :
  • Reduce Rework / Repairs &
  • Less mistakes will
  • Improve productivity Hence
  • can provide better Quality to Market
  • can achive more market share
  • can Stay in Market for Long time.

Quality is Never An Accident:

It is Always the result of High intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution.
It represents the wise choce of many alternatives.
The cumulative experience of many masters of craftsmanship
Quality also marks the search for an ideal after necessity has been satisfied and mere usefulness achieved.                                                               -Will A Foster

8 Dimensions of Quality
Performance - Will it do the intended job?
Reliability - How often does it fail?
Durability - How long does the product last?
Serviceability - How easy is it to repair the product?
Aesthetics - What does the product look like?
Features - What does the product do?
Perceived Quality - What is the reputation of the company or its product?
Conformance to Standards - Is the product made exactly as the designer intended?

The Defects produced in Hidden factory :

Process means : A set of Activity which converts input into output

Input => work on input resource (Operation) => Test =>if Not ok=> Rework
=> if Ok => Output in form of Product

Defect will be produced in coloured steps which can be called as Hidden Factory

Quality Control
Controlling a process to ensure that the product / service produced is conformed with respect to specified requirement.
Quality Management
Directing an organization so that it optimizes its performance through analysis and improvement
